An elegant and tranquil rural villa with a heated pool and hot tub, just 10 minutes’ drive from a buzzing beach resort (sleeps 14-16)
Lanzarote is famed for its profusion of light, space and eye-popping panoramas. Villa Alcalde provides this holy trinity in bucketfuls, thanks to an open-plan design and ‘as-far-as-the-eye-can-see’ vistas. Set at the edge of Mácher, a rural village in the south, electric gates roll back to reveal a vast 1,200 sq.m plot that contains landscaped gardens with a heated pool, and a 7-bedroom stone and timber villa, wrapped with a wooden veranda. Inside, you find a calming, muted colour palette of greys with a hint of mustard.
We spent hours sitting on the deck, soaking up those views – a gentle slope of volcanic scrubland, dotted with palm trees and whitewashed villas, down to a watery horizon. Behind the villa, Mácher’s sugar-cube houses dot the gentle slopes and volcanic cones form a serrated backdrop. Walkers, sports enthusiasts and those after a chilled group or family holiday away from the crowds will find Villa Alcalde ticks all the right boxes. To feed the masses, there are indoor and outdoor kitchens and dining areas, a Stonehenge-like BBQ area – or, if you’re too relaxed to wave a spatula, a trio of restaurants lies within walking distance.
